We are proud to be part of the multi-national Aveng group of construction, infrastructure and engineering companies and to offer our customers the added advantage of strong group synergies in terms of expertise, innovation, skills and facilities.

Based East of Johannesburg, Lennings has been a major contributor to the railroad network, a critical element of Africa’s transport infrastructure, in South Africa, Swaziland, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique. We are expanding our footprint into other parts of Africa and the Middle East and, working with sister company McConnell Dowell Construction, also into Australia and South East Asia.

Our highly motivated team, led by specialist railway engineers, has built a reputation for innovative solutions to challenges of all sizes and complexities. We have some record achievements to our name, such as replacing 58 560 concrete railway sleepers on the Sishen Saldanha ore export line in one 10-day period.

Quality and safety are the watchwords of Aveng Manufacturing Lennings Rail Services, evidenced by ISO9001-2008 and OHSAS 18001 accreditation respectively.

Track maintenance equipment

Our equipment fleet, largely manufactured in our own workshops, includes ballast tampers, regulators, screeners and undercutters, track renewal and rail handling trains, rail grinders, flash butt welding machines and vehicles for ultrasonic rail flaw detection, track geometry measurement, overhead maintenance and track utility purposes. All equipment is operated by purpose trained personnel and maintained in-house with the goal of completing your project quickly and competently.

Lennings has technology agreements in place with leading international developers of track maintenance machinery, track formation, track structure and rail wheel condition monitoring equipment and exports certain machines within the bounds of these agreements.

Our in-house engineering services encompass design and drawing; turnkey track machinery construction and assembly; electrical sub-assemblies; reconditioning of mechanical components; sub-assemblies of wheels, axles and final drivers; and prototype engineering for special applications.

On site we translate this expertise into rail construction and maintenance across the board, including greenfield railway projects from inception to delivery, rehabilitation and long term maintenance of track systems.

Sustainability

Aveng Manufacturing Lennings Rail Services plays an integral role in the sustainability journey embarked on by the Aveng group in 2006.

It is our vision to leave a legacy of which future generations will be proud, hence our drive to continually improve the level and quality of our sustainable development.

While building infrastructure that is essential for economic and social development, we are always mindful of its impact on the environment. This includes compliance not only with the letter but also the spirit of environmental legislation and encouraging our clients to work with us in “going green”.

Just one project that has helped reduce our use of fossil fuels is the installation of battery powered gensets to replace diesel powered units for mobile accommodation on sites. This initiative has significantly reduced not only fuel consumption but also cost for ourselves and our clients.

Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment is a major component of our sustainability plan and Aveng Manufacturing Lennings Rail Services is currently a level 3 contributor on the Department of Trade and Industry’s scorecard.

We believe that investing in our people is essential to our success and the group has global best-practice policies and procedures in place from grading and remuneration to performance management and succession planning.

The specialised skills that set Aveng Manufacturing Lennings Rail Services apart from the competition are developed internally and we also give our people at all levels access to programmes offered by the group from management and business skills to technical and operator training.

Safety is central to all our activities, hence our group core value of: “Home without harm, everyone, everyday”.
